Going Berry Nuts at Juiced

It’s 6am on a Wednesday morning in Cricket Square and as the birds signal the start of a new day, the Juiced staff are already preparing fresh produce for the popular smoothie menu, squeezing the oranges into fresh juice and receiving a delivery of ‘Coco Bluff’ coconuts straight from the plantation.

Any guesses as to what produce is consumed the most by Juiced customers? Bananas, of course! Approximately 5 pounds of bananas are incorporated into Juiced smoothies, juices and bowls every day. This amount can even double on really busy days.

The same applies for blueberries, peanut butter and oats, that all rank in the top five most consumed products at Juiced. This is because all these ingredients are used to make Juiced’s best-selling smoothie, ‘Berry Nuts’. A healthy and fulfilling breakfast or snack available from 7am at Juiced in Cricket Square every weekday morning.

Rich in protein and natural antioxidants, here is the recipe to make your own ‘Berry Nuts’ at home:

  • 1 banana, peeled
  • 1 cup blueberries, frozen
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon flax seeds
  • whey protein, optional

Blend until totally smooth and serve immediately.

The small but mighty blueberry is loaded with nutrients to help lower blood pressure, prevent heart disease, improve memory, and aid in exercise recovery. Flaxseed is one of the world’s oldest crops that provides a good amount of protein, fibre to improve digestion, and omega-3 fatty acids to promote heart health, along with several important vitamins and minerals.

If you’re a juice fan, a popular weekly Juiced special is the refreshing combination of pineapple, mint, ginger and honey. The tropical delight you’ll always want to have around. Pineapples are a great source of vitamin C with immune boosting properties that support a healthy immune system to help fight infections. Just like ginger, they also have some anti-inflammatory properties. Lemon is a natural detoxifier and helps in getting rid of toxins from our body.

Every morning delicious snacks from the Brasserie Bakery, like our scrumptious banana bread, are transported over to Juiced with a checklist in hand to make sure all ingredients are replenished and ready for you.

In true Brasserie style there is no food waste, as all the menu items are prepared from scratch as and when customers place their order. Food scraps such as banana peels and orange juice rinds are added to compost in the garden, eventually going full circle as they provide nutrients and protection for the new harvest of fruits and vegetables. The leftover coconut shells are turned into mulch to keep moisture in the soil of plants, whilst also suppressing weed growth and keeping the soil cool.

Juiced at The Wicket is open throughout August, 7am-3pm, Monday to Friday. To order ahead call 927 6419. Find us on the grassy lawn area opposite Century Yard in Cricket Square. There’s plenty of parking and a beautiful outdoor area surrounded by lush greenery to enjoy your favourite Juiced treat.
