Naseberry

The heady sweet aroma of a naseberry (otherwise known as a chickoo, chikoo or sapota) is unmistakable, with its fleshy brown skin and grainy sweetness on the inside. Love it or hate it, this fruit is currently in season and for good reason. Let’s take a look at why naseberries are good for you…

Did you know that a naseberry a day might just keep the eye doctor away? While this might be a slight exaggeration, the fruit is packed with vitamins including vitamin A for eye health and vitamin C to boost immunity and protect your skin.

Busy day ahead? Grab a naseberry. The natural fructose and sucrose content in naseberries will give your body a welcome energy boost.

Did you know that this delicious fruit is rich in calcium, phosphorus, and iron, and therefore keeps your bones strong? It is a good source of minerals like iron, folates, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, phosphorous, selenium etc which are very essential for facilitating various body functions including proper bone growth.

Rich in iron, magnesium and potassium, the naseberry can help to regulate blood pressure and circulation, as well as treat anaemia.

Packed with antioxidants, eating naseberries regularly helps to remove toxins from your body and is therefore great for skin, hair and nails, keeping them healthy and moisturised. In fact the naseberry is known as a “happy” food; it helps promote the production of collagen and prevents the growth of deep wrinkles. The fruit’s vitamin C and E content can help to eliminate skin diseases or inflammation such as acne and eczema.

If you haven’t tasted naseberry ice cream, then you must! The fruit has an exceptionally sweet, malty flavour, making it a favourite amongst ice cream fans.

Another “must try” is our ‘Naseberry Lassi’ $5 smoothie special available at Juiced @ The Wicket for this week only!
